Eagles Rookie Kicker Jake Elliot Nails Field Goal For the Win

Wow. Somehow, the rookie did it. Somehow.

Kicker Jake Elliot, just recently being signed off the Bengals practice squad by the Eagles after Caleb Sturgis got injured in Week 1, hit a 61 yard field goal as time expired for the WIN: 27-24 over the New York Giants.

Elliot was a fifth-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. Even though he showed off his strong leg in practice, his lack of accuracy kept in the practice squad, giving Mike Nugent the opportunity to stay as a starter.

Earlier that game, Elliot actually missed a 52 yard field goal, which if he had made, then this post wouldn't be uploaded at all. According to Elliot, he felt "demoralized" by this missed field goal, but that didn't ruin his attitude -- or his accuracy.

The 61 yard field goal is the longest field goal in Eagles history, let alone a ROOKIE doing it. The previous owner was Tony Franklin, who booted a 59 yard field goal. Even more, Elliot longest field goal in college was 56! So, this new high of 61 is definitely a hard one to beat.
