Super Bowl LII: Eagles vs Patriots -- Special Game Recap

Super Bowl LII, held in Minnesota, was an instant classic on Sunday when the Eagles and Patriots squared off for a Super Bowl rematch. It featured a 505 yard and 3 touchdown performance by legend Tom Brady, but even THAT wasn't enough to beat Nick Foles' 373 yard and three touchdown game and the underdogs. It was a game for the ages and definitely one NOT to forget. And such, we decided to specially recap this game for everyone to witness the amazing moments occurring in such a historic time for the Eagles.

We kick off the Super Bowl with Eagles losing the toss, and thus the Patriots electing to have ball after halftime. The Eagles trail up the field but face a crucial 3rd and goal situation. When Alshon Jeffery couldn't convert off a tipped pass, kicker Jake Elliot settled for three. So, right there, the Eagles were up, 3-0. Then, the Patriots do the same, highlighting a bomb to Chris Hogan. When it was 3rd and 4 at the Eagles ten, a defensive play by Jalen Mills forced New England for three. After that though, Nick Foles channeled his inner potential, and lobbed a ridiculous pass to Alshon Jeffery for a touchdown. Eagles are up 9-3 at the end of the first quarter because sadly Jake Elliot missed an extra point.

To start the second quarter, the Patriots run up the field, starting off with a LONG pass to Danny Amendola. Then, on a 3rd and 2 at the Eagles ten yard line, Brandin Cooks tries to hurdle over Rodney McLeod, which unfortunately fails. Gostowski settles in for a 3, but Derek Barnett, first round rookie, blocks it! The score remains 9-3. After the Eagles punt it, the Patriots get the ball for another chance . . . which fails. Brandin Cooks gets BLOWN UP by Malcom Jenkins and remains injured for the rest of the game. AND on a 3rd and 5 at around midfield, a trick play which had Danny Amendola open to throw a pass to Tom Brady, he DROPS it. Even after they go for it, Gronk DROPS it. So, the Eagles get ball, and nearly lose it, but convert on 3rd down with a pass to Zach Ertz. Moments later, former Patriot running back LeGarrette Blount runs it in for a touchdown. 15-3 for the Eagles. Soon, Rex Burkhead nearly goes ALL the way, so the Patriots settle for 3. The Eagles get ball and use it pretty well, getting to midfield. But, after Foles lobs a pass which Alshon Jeffery juggles, the Patriots intercept it. They use this turnover to score a touchdown, but Barnett comes in AGAIN to stop the extra point, leaving it at 15-12. Corey Clement then gives the Eagles a chance to score AGAIN, getting to the Patriots 10 yard line. What happens next is amazing: Nick Foles does a trick play to Trey Burton, who throws it BACK TO FOLES for a touchdown. Pretty cool.

Patriots receive ball after halftime, so they use it wisely. Gronk comes in clutch and snags a touchdown against Malcolm Jenkins and Ronald Darby. The score is now 22-19. Eagles drive up the field, converting two third downs with Nelson Agholor and Zach Ertz. Then, Nick Foles throws a DIME to Corey Clement, a running back who was also DOUBLE COVERED. Even with a booth review and challenge, they ruled it a touchdown. 29-19 to the Eagles. Tom Brady knows he doesn't wanna waste time, and he quick huddles it in for a dart to Chris Hogan for a touchdown. 29-26.

Then, in the fourth quarter, the Eagles decently move the ball up the field, but they have to settle it in for a 3 point 42 yard field goal by Jake Elliot. 32-26. Tom Brady chews half of the fourth quarter, and ends the drive with a touchdown to Gronk. Now, for the first time, the Patriots have took the lead, 33-32. The Eagles become a little desperate, going quicker now. They face a fourth down at mid field, but opt to go for it. Zach Ertz pulls it in to convert it, and he comes in AGAIN for the touchdown with a diving leap. Doug Pederson tries for two, but Corey Clement can't catch it on the sideline. The Patriots are now more tense than ever, rushing to the line of scrimmage. Then, probably the most historic play in Eagles history, Brandon Graham strips the ball, leading to a fumble and a field goal. Even with the Patriots last second shots, the Eagles go on to win the SUPER BOWL, 41-33.
