Patrick Mahomes, tenth pick rookie backup QB from Texas Tech, is officially starting for the Kansas City Chiefs on their regular season finale against the Denver Broncos. As the Chiefs are already locked and loaded at that number four spot, they hope to spark a new "Mahomes era" by giving him his first starting time. Veteran starter Alex Smith, however, will be returning in the playoffs. Mahomes played phenomenally in the NFL combine, but it only is up to the Chiefs as to how aggressive they'll play in Mahomes debut.
